Craigslist sends C&D to jaxed.com (again!)

This is going to sound familiar.

On July 30, 2012, jaxed.com was presented with a "CEASE AND DESIST UNLAWFUL MISUSE OF CRAIGSLIST" from attorneys representing Craigslist. In the C&D, jaxed.com was cited for violating the Craigslist Terms of Use (TOU). Cragislist has demanded that jaxed.com remove all Craigslist listing titles, and cease to index Craigslist listings in the future.

This is the second C&D that Craigslist has sent to jaxed.com. The first one was in August of 2011. The difference this time? jaxed.com is now sourcing all of it's Craigslist listings from a 3rd party API developed by 3Taps. As you may be aware, Craigslist has filed a lawsuit against 3Taps and Padmapper for violating Craigslist's TOU.

At this time, jaxed.com will comply with the C&D. Like last time, jaxed.com will attempt to open a line of communication with Craigslist to see if there is any sort of license or deal that can be worked out so that we can continue to operate with Craigslist listings in some way, shape, or form.

Sorry folks.

A few things of note:

1) Is anybody noticing the slow trickle of various forum listings into their search results? Do you like it? If you have a specific forum you want added, then send us a line.

2) We are thinking about merging the Cars & Trucks (formerly Vehicles) category with the Parts category. It turns out that by adding forum listings into the mix, the line is blurred between "Cars & Trucks" and "Parts." Let us know what you think.

3) Really? Some people think there is some buyout or backroom deal between Craigslist/eBay and jaXed? We can assure you there is nothing of the sort! What a drag to see a bunch of baseless speculation in the comments on the site and Facebook.

4) Lots more changes ahead!

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT! The sheer volume of positive email and comments we have received after posting about the "CEASE AND DESIST UNLAWFUL MISUSE OF CRAIGSLIST" has been phenomenal. We have read each and every comment, email, Facebook, and tweet sent our way.

The whole Craigslist thing is a downer, we know. When it comes down to it, the "Craigslist way" is not compatible with our site. It's not compatible with the internet, really. If you look on just about every Craigslist listing page, and elsewhere on Craigslist, you see the following words:
DEAL LOCALLY WITH FOLKS YOU CAN MEET IN PERSON - follow this one rule and avoid 99% of scam attempts on craigslist.
Craigslist is about being local. Craigslist wants nothing to do with any sort of nationwide search and they don't want anybody else doing it for them. We really don't think this has anything to do with eBay owning part of Craigslist. It has to do with the idea of the "Craigslist way" of dealing locally.
The jaXed Mash has been presented with a "CEASE AND DESIST UNLAWFUL MISUSE OF CRAIGSLIST" from attorneys representing Craigslist. It is unfortunate that we will not be able to offer Craigslist as a source of data any longer.

The next few days and weeks we will be looking at merging new sources of data into The jaXed Mash. It makes sense to find smaller niche sites and forums and work with those sites to bring their listings to The jaXed Mash. If you know of any sites that you would like The jaXed Mash to index, drop us a line via Email, Facebook or Twitter (@jaxed).

Monster Cable, jaXed - DMCA madness

You might have been presented with this while visiting this site recently:

On Nov 2 2010 Monster Cable filed a DMCA copyright infringement notice to jaXed.com for "infringing" on Monster Cable Products copyrights. For unknown reasons, Monster Cable is upset that images of their products appeared on jaXed.com in classified and auction listings.

On Nov 4 2010 GoDaddy.com has taken down jaXed.com due to this complaint.

We will be working to bring the site back up as soon as we can.

We are back online now, but have disabled the Electronics category, which as near as we can tell was the source of the issue that Monster Cable Products Inc. had with us. We're not sure, since the official complaint gave no real indication as to why there was a problem, other then mentioning copyrighted terms.

Monster Cable Products Inc. believes the onus is on jaXed.com to police it's listings for counterfeit product listings and copyrighted images. jaXed.com is not the originator of said listings and images (they aren't even hosted here) and so we feel like this is an undue burden.

At any rate, give us some time to get the kinks worked out and hopefully we'll be back to normal soon.
Here is an example search for Porsche 356's that do not contain "Kit" or "Replica" in the listing title.

http://bit.ly/by37qO.

Since the Mash is doing so well, I've decided to nuke all of the other "non-Mash" stuff living under the jaxed.com domain. I will use this home page to put announcements, news, and tips related to the Mash - not unlike what is posted to our jaXed - Mash Facebook page. In fact, there will certainly be overlap between the two.

Anyway, keep using the site and enjoy!
